Hi, I am Alan Chalmers, I set up Eat walk Edinburgh food walking tour in 2011 with the St Andrews tour starting two years later. I am originally from Stirling, but apart from a couple of years working in London have spent most of my working life in Edinburgh.
I come from a Catering background and when I went on my first food walking tour in Seattle in 2009 knew that Edinburgh would be the perfect location to set up a food walking tour. The tour took off very quickly so decided to expand this into another area of Scotland.
I chose St Andrews as it has similarities to Edinburgh as a place where visitors came and stayed for a few days, it had an abundance of history and great shops, restaurants and bars to visit.
Our food walking tours visit five locations to taste locally sourced food with three of the stops also having drink tastings. The guide talks about the history of the area as the group walk between venues. While in the venues they will talk about the food and drinks served about building itself and people that run it. They will also point other places to visit or try after the tour is over. Tours last 3 to 3.5 hours and give people the confidence to go out explore more on their own.
I aim to update the blog at least once a month with what we discover new on our tours in the hope it will help visitors and locals to enjoy St Andrews and what is has to offer to the full.
